Forever Calm and Pure

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God (Matt. 5:8).

It was a sun-filled day in Galilee,
The breeze that flowed from the sea,
Filled with the fragrance of sweetness,
Brought to the assembled people a draft
That carried the aroma of heaven.

A crowd of curious people,
Wondering at the person
Resplendent in garments
Of the brilliance of white.

He sat on a little mount,
Faced those who sat below,
Their faces radiant in expectancy,
And in gentle voice began to speak.

He spoke words never before heard,
Words that heralded a day of rest,
Rest from the anxieties of earth,
And the promise of heaven’s peace.

He spoke of the blessedness of purity,
The purity that envisions the holy God,
The purity that overcomes all strife,
Embossomed in the everlasting arms.
