The Universal Song
All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name vs. 5
O that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall;
We’ll join the everlasting song,
And crown Him Lord of all.
There are hymns that are specific,
Extolling various particular interests.
One thinks of the American national hymn,
The Star Spangled Banner.
Yet there remains the universal song,
The hymn that extols our Lord.
It voices the praise of the only God,
The God who is true and faithful.
In his everlasting arms we are enfolded,
Our life-journey is foretold from Earth’s founding,
Securing God’s promise of security and fulfillment.
The path He has proscribed is the way of holiness.
The universal song involves yet another element,
The element of the everlasting.
This hymn of the Eternal One
Shall remain forever, as does He who is eternal.
